Independent Seniors Guide is built for an audience that includes people with vision, hearing, and mobility differences — so accessibility isn't an add-on here, it's the starting point.

What we've built in

• Body text set at 18px or larger, sitewide, with a minimum readability target of 7:1 contrast — well above the standard 4.5:1 minimum — because older eyes typically need significantly more contrast and light to read comfortably
• Every image, including book covers, carries descriptive alt text for screen reader users
• Plain, jargon-free language throughout — technical and medical terms are explained, not assumed
• Large, clearly labelled buttons and generous tap targets, designed for readers who may not have the steadiest hands
• Colour is never used as the only way to convey information — every action is backed by a text label
• Keyboard-navigable page structure and visible focus indicators for anyone not using a mouse or touchscreen

Our approach

We've designed this site with the guidance of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) in mind. We haven't undergone formal third-party accessibility certification, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing process, not a box to check once.
